Third graders in Ms. Temples class researched famous South Carolinians! They wrote a biographical summary fo the person's life, drew a picture of an important event in the person's life, and wrote what they thought was this person's most important contribution to our state. Each student dressed in an imaginative costume reflecting the style and time period and presented their information to other students.

Lovely sounds of the season were enjoyed this morning at GES! Camille Jones directed the Gilbert Middle School Chorus in a performance of several delightful holiday selections. The students performed a variety of songs - some in 4 part harmony! We appreciate the GMS Chorus for sharing holiday spirit with us! Listen and enjoy a portion of their final song, Jingle Bells!

Listen as Ms. Weymouth's fifth graders share Haiku poems. The students wrote the poems as part of American Education Week "Writing Wednesday". A Haiku is a short Japanese poem about something in nature. It expresses a mood. There are 17 syllables in a Haiku: 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second line, and 5 in the third line.

Mrs. Wells' third grade ESOL students are learning all about reading with expression! Listen as they perform this Reader's Theater called "Robocat". Robocat is a robot who looks like a cat. He's trying to solve the mystery of the missing vegetables. Characters include Melissa, narrator; Ismael, Robocat; and Mrs. Wells, Patch Rabbit. GES Goes Green ... and music teacher Amy Graham is teaching students and staff the "Recycle Rap" as part of American Education Week celebrations. Listen and enjoy a little of the rap! Third graders in Ms. Whitesell's class have been studying early South Carolina history. As one of their projects, many students created a replica of one of the early South Carolina Native American homes. These homes are from one of the 3 major tribes that lived in SC: Cherokee (Upstate), Catawba (Piedmont), or Edisto (Low Country). Listen as three students describe their project.

Fifth graders in Ms. Weymouth's class read"Two Bad Ants" by author Chris Van Allsburg. Afterwards, they wrote their own version of the story from the ant's point of view. Listen and enjoy as these 4 students read and share their composition!
